What Newspapers or magazines should i read if i want to be a journalist or a writer?
I heard that some magazines or newspapers write on a 7th grade level. I want to know what magazines or newspapers that will help in my development as a writer/journalist?
If you are in the US read the respectable online newspaper like the New York Times online. Ask someone what the most respectable newspaper is where you live and read that.
The New York Times online has some of the best reporters in the US and you can get everything from news to lifestyle and opinion all on the same site.
The more you read, the more you will get a feel for the style and start to understand how a newspaper article is written.

depends. where are you in the scheme of things – grade 10? freshman at Harvard?
The simple fact about the writing of much of journalism being at a low grade level is that the typical news outlet wants READERS.
It has to write in such a way as to draw in the largest number of readers meaning it has to aim relatively low; if you are talking about the NY Times, for example, the writing is of a higher quality but you know that it will not attract the same readership as the Toronto Sun.(there will be overlap)
the very best that you can do for yourself, not just as a writer but as a person, is to read. Keep reading everything from the Enquirer to the Times to Harper’s or the Atlantic Monthly to the even more esoteric journals that might interest you.
The bad writing will show you all the things to avoid; the good will give you a sort of "background radiation" against which you can measure your own hum – I mean, output.
And do not forget that what is most important is YOUR OWN VOICE. If that should be measured at a "grade seven level" – so what??? Hemingway was unbothered by it.
