What happens to partially filled magazines?
In video games such as Counter-Strike and Call of Duty, when the player reloads his gun when the magazine is not empty, it seems as if the old magazine is thrown away. As this can be seen as a waste of ammunition, it makes me wonder what soldiers actually do in the field. Do they throw away partially-filled magazines, hold on to them, or just shoot until magazine is empty?
In the field when you switch out a magazine that has been partially emptied you try to save it in your ruck. When you are out of combat for a while you reload those partial mags. If you are moving too fast then the mags just fall where they are and are left there. Video games aren’t anything like real life.

You should never leave unused ammo unsecured. A lot of the M4s and M16s we sent to the Iraq Army and Police are unaccounted for. Those, and plenty of other compatible weapons which fire the same 5.56 rounds are easily obtainable by the enemy.

war isnt a video game…
if you change out mags when its only partially empty you put it somewhere so that you’ll know its half emtpy or what not but still available. for empty mags you try to hold on to them but if your moving through a building and you drop it your not gonna take the time to pick it up.
