How long should an interview for a magazine last?

Posted on February 7th, 2010 by admin in magazine | 2 Comments »

I’m writing an article for an engineering magazine at my university. The article will be 1000 words long, and I’m interviewing the dean of engineering. I need to let his secretary know my times of availability, but I’m not sure how much space I need to reserve for the interview. Any suggestions?

A typical interview can go from 5-15 minutes. If it is a larger feature, it can be up to 30 minutes. I would recommend you spend a maximum of 15 minutes for your particular article.

Hope that helps. If you want to get an idea of questions, how to write them up, feel free to check out my site and the musicians I have interviewed.

I figure at least an hour. You will need to have lots of time B/c some question you may decide to omit, and you want to be sure to get 1000 words.
