Is there any advantage to subscribing to magazines now these days or is it a total waste of money?

There are a couple of advantages I can think of. I subscribe to Empire, and they quite regularly do special Covers only for subscribers. These will become collectors items in future, as they are limited editions. There are a number of magazines that do this now.

Also, subscribing can be handy for hard to find magazines as there are limited shops which sell them. For example Lula magazine http://www.uniquemagazines.co.uk/magazine-subscriptions-349465/Subscribe-to-Lula- here is really hard to get hold of, so subscribing means you will get your copy.

The same goes for Imports and foreign magazines. Subscribing means you will get your copy, whereas taking the risk the shop will have a copy means you may be disappointed.

Can you please share your smart ways to make good use of the magazines or what’s your preference– paper or digital copy?

I think there is Technology Review, and Engineering Today, but stay away from Popular Mechanics. They used to be good but now every page has ten snippets of not-very-in-depth information like a website, instead of long rambling articles like Air and Space, and they stink.
