What do magazine vendors do with all the mags when the new month arrives?
I’ve always wondered what the magazine and newspaper stands or stores do with all the magazines that aren’t sold. Do they toss them? Or sell them at a discounted rate to someone? How can they afford to buy all those magazines and not sell them? Do they buy them at such a discount it is still profitable? Do they not have to pay for the mags that are not sold?
hopefully recycle them

Generally they rip the front cover off and that gets returned to the publisher as a proof of how many issues were sold that month. The rest of the magazines are thrown out and hopefully recycled. This is why a cover less comic book is worthless

The retailer returns the magazine to the wholesaler. Usually this is done by removing the cover and returning it and recycling the rest.
They are never sold at a discounted rate. The retailer essentially owes the cover price minus their percentage back to the wholesaler. Selling magazines at a discounted rate would decrease the retailer’s own profit. Retailers do not buy the magazines up front, they either owe the percentage of cover price or the actual cover back to the wholesaler.
