What teen magazines will let you write a piece for them?

Posted on December 26th, 2009 by admin in magazines | 1 Comment »

What i’m asking is for a good list of magazines for Teens (such as those 12-13 years and up to about 15 being 12-15) that will let you write a piece/story/quiz/etc for them. The part could be pay or no pay. Right now, i’m just looking for something that will get me in the game.
If you do have any tid bit of an answer or advice please comment/write back!

Well I’ve never herd of something that does this, but even though it may sounds nerdy perhaps ask your school paper!

I want to be a news presenter so I’m asking myself :)

How do you donate magazines to a hospital?

Posted on December 23rd, 2009 by admin in magazines | 15 Comments »

I have a lot of teenage magazines from about 4 years ago which I don’t need anymore, they are in pretty much mint condition so it seems a shame to just chuck them in the recycling box. I’d like to donate them to my hospital. (They never have any teen magazines there, they’re always Saga or Eczema Society ones).
How would I go about doing this? Just put them in a box and take them to reception?

Thanks.

They usually have an office for donations of any kind.

I send a subscription to a local hospital because my niece always sells me one for school every year and I don’t need it.

How do I receive magazines and such from Sony Playstation. I heard there were promotional codes on Sony things. Also I mean receiving it by mail. So anybody who has a good answer receives 20 points.

I joined the Playstation Underground and then once I bought a PS3 I linked my underground with my PSN account and I periodically receive offers etc from Sony. Go to playstation.com and sign up !

How can I get my writing into magazines?

I am new to freelance writing, but have published articles online and now want to branch out into magazines. I need advice on how to break into magazines.

Just send them in.
Usually in the first few pages, there is a section where you can contact the editor.
Opinion sections are usually good ways to start as well.

Does anyone have a good idea on what to do with cooking magazines?

Posted on December 16th, 2009 by admin in magazines | 7 Comments »

I have 8+ years of Taste of Home, Country Woman and other magazines that all have recipes. I love cooking magazines, but I don’t know what to do with them. I can’t seem to bear throwing them out even tho I know the chances of me looking at them again are basically nill. Each magazine has too many recipes to cut them out and then it would just be a pile of recipes. What have others done with their old magazines?

Get rid of them … they are only cluttering your home. You can find great recipes on line from so many sites. Perhaps look into the magazine and see if they have a website and you can find all their recipes on line. Donate the magazines to your local library, high school or community centre.

What is a great way to organize magazines in a bedroom?

Posted on December 8th, 2009 by admin in magazines | 1 Comment »

I pretty much have a subscription to just about every magazine on the planet. From Allure to CosmoGirl to Lucky and back again. . I need a cool way to organize all of the magazines I have in my bedroom. Book shelfs are too small, and keep in mind I do like to read them occasionally so storage containers/boxes won’t work. Also, I’d like them to match the decor of my room, which is a mixture between old Hollywood glamour and vintage. I’ve tried just about everything so please help! :] Thanks.

my suggestion is.. continuous book shelving built on all corners of the room or on four corners of one wall…this is inspired from the glamourous dressers of hollywood icons. you can put old issues on top–the upper corner of the wall– and the latest issues on accessible side corners.

What are some good magazines to publish short stories in?

Posted on December 6th, 2009 by admin in magazines | 5 Comments »

I’ve written a few short stories, I want to know what kind of magazines I can get them published in. I don’t really care if they offer payment although that would be a bonus.
not anecdotes.

The top magazines are the New Yorker and the Atlantic Monthly in terms of payment and prestige.
If you’re looking for smaller markets or the full range available, I suggest you find a copy of "Novel & Short Story Writer’s Market" published by Writer’s Digest Books at any bookstore or library.

How have magazines portrayed gender identity in the contemporary world?

Posted on November 26th, 2009 by admin in magazines | 2 Comments »

I have to write an essay on how discourse analysis in magazines reveals the construction of gender identity in todays world….any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I have written a couple articles related to gender roles and gender identity. If you want to take a chance to read them they might help you understand your assignment better.

In magazines, what stands out in my mind is the pictures, more than the text. I would go purchase a mens magazine, i.e. GQ, playboy, maxim, car magazine, or something along those lines, and a womens magazine, cosmpolitan, elle, preferrably not tabloid. Next I would start to look at what the pictures are saying about a given gender. I.E in the mens magazing what is the picture saying about how women should be, and what does the pictures of a half naked women say about the gender role of men. just an idea
