On average, what is the amount of magazines the average person subscribes to? What would be an excessive amount?

More than they actually read.

What are some good and interesting magazines about new inventions?

Posted on February 6th, 2012 by admin in magazines | 1 Comment »

So I really like new inventions of the month and stuff, but I do not know any good and interesting magazines about inventions, other than Popular Science. Does anybody have any recommendations for a magazine, or website that I could look into? Any magazine or website about inventions will help. Thank You!

I think there is Technology Review, and Engineering Today, but stay away from Popular Mechanics. They used to be good but now every page has ten snippets of not-very-in-depth information like a website, instead of long rambling articles like Air and Space, and they stink.

What magazines or newspapers have student/teen advisory boards?

Posted on November 19th, 2011 by admin in magazines | 1 Comment »

I’m a 10th-grade girl who’s looking for chances to work at magazines or newspapers. I have the experience and ability to work on an editorial board (been on one in the past, but outgrew it) and I’m looking for ways to get more experience.
Does anyone know of any newspapers or magazines that have opportunities like this for teens, even part-time? Paid or unpaid, online or in person, doesn’t matter.
I’m already on my school newspaper and magazine, and I’m looking for other opportunities as well.

Your school should have a magazine or club relating to that.

How many magazines can I send the same short story to for publishing?

Posted on August 3rd, 2011 by admin in magazines | 2 Comments »

I want to get as much chance of exposure as possible. If I write a short story to submit to magazines in hope of being published, how many magazines can I send it to at once? I don’t want to have problems if more than one magazine picks it (not trying to sound too-sure of myself – just trying to educate myself on the subject). Thanks! :)

You may send it to as many magazines as you like, and it’s recommended that you do so.

Some publishers will specify "no simultaneous submissions," meaning they would prefer not to receive stories that you are sending elsewhere. However, feel free to ignore this. For one thing, there is no way they will ever know. For another thing, your odds of getting accepted anywhere are fairly low, regardless of how good your story is. I was a fiction editor at a literary magazine for two and half years, and I calculated that we accepted less than 2% of all submissions. Many places will hold on to your story for months before rejecting it. You’re better off sending that piece out into the world as much as possible. Most publishers and editors are aware of these statistics and understand that authors must submit as widely as possible.

It’s imperative that you keep good records of where you are submitting. If you do sell a story that has been submitted to multiple magazines, you must send a letter to every other magazine to which you’ve submitted it. Do not say that you sold it elsewhere. Simply write, "I regret to inform you that my story, "XYZ," is no longer available for publication. I apologize for the inconvenience." There is no reason for you to ever tell an editor that you are sending simultaneous submissions.

What are some magazines that I could submit my work to?

I am struggling to pay for college this fall. I write short stories and poetry and am currently trying to edit some of my best stuff to submit to magazines.

I know about Cicada magazine and they are on my list.

I have written fantasy, young adult, children’s, comedy, drama, horror, steampunk, and surrealist, among a handful of other genres, so I am pretty open as far as market is concerned.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This is a search engine for short story & poetry submission, but beware, not all of them pay:

Why does YA automatically add question mark?

Smithsonian, Invention & Technology, Popular Science, Discover, and also History magazine are some in depth and well written ones.
Hope this helps :)

where can I find a distributor for anime magazines?

Posted on February 28th, 2011 by admin in magazines | 1 Comment »

I’m planning to open an anime store and I need magazines to sell there, but I can seem to find a distributor that has any anime magazines, I know that magazines like anime usa and shonen jump are still selling and there are other magazines dealing with anime, manga and video games circulating as well, but I cant seem to find the distributors online, can anyone help me out?

I’m not sure if this will be any help but if you look up and contact the companies that actually produce anime magazines they should be able to give you information about distributors.
