i want to design magazine layouts for fashion magazines, what specific major would that be?

Posted on March 31st, 2011 by admin in fashion magazines | 3 Comments »

i’ve been interested in fashion photography but feel like a promising field of work that would still involve it would be making layouts for magazines but im not sure what specific major that would be, what classes to start taking or where to start at all… help!

Take graphic design, but also try taking some basic fashion design classes as well. It makes you more well-rounded and knowledgeable in the field you want to go into.

How can I write to fashion magazines I want to be a writer for them?

Posted on March 27th, 2011 by admin in fashion magazines | 2 Comments »

I owned a fashion boutique but I gave it to my sister because she wanted to open her own one too and I realised that I want to become a writer for fashion for Heat! Magazine. Since I already have an eye for fashion since my business is running, I think I will have a chance. I’ve opened this boutique for over 4 years now, but I don’t have a degree. It’s all self taught.

easy… write something… and submit it… and althought you may not like this answer, getting into ANY periodical / glossy publishing house is a distant on the horizon dream…you will probably be a stringer or freelancer, staff positions dont happen overnight… and getting IN can take many years of hard work… the big glossies employ the cream… they pay, and they choose… and thier decisons are always based on a solid dependable proven track record… this is a high presure environment… i publish a small community newspaper.. a mere 30 pages once a month… ive never missed a deadline… can you say that?

because at 3am, when your art director is screaming down the phone and the deadline is 6 hours away… youd better not have writers block… and your copy has to be precise, concise and on time.

try it, base the article on your own experience, your own boutique… shoot a few frames, and write 2000 words… then rewrite it, to 1000 words… and again, to 500… which is roughly 1 page of A4…
and submit it to your local community newspaper… (treat it as advertising for the boutique) and see where it goes… you can also enrol at the local community colleges for writing workshops..

Also what would be a fashion stylist for a magazines like Vogues role in fashion week?

I’m doing a presentation for school about fashion week and stuff….
Thanks in advance!

Editors attend shows at NYFW so that they can write reviews about them. They spot trends and the "top" pieces so that they can feature them in their magazine.

What are some good German Fashion Magazines?

Posted on March 23rd, 2011 by admin in fashion magazines | 2 Comments »

My mother is going to Germany for three weeks tomorrow, and she said she would buy me a few magazines, but I would like to search in German fashion magazines. Apart from Vogue, Glamour and Maxi. What the other magazines are good for a 19 year old girl good?
I already have Vogue, Glamour and Maxi on my list.
We already get Burda from WHSmiths but I prefer the German version of Burda, it’s much better.

If you enjoy sewing Burda it is a fashion magazine with a unique pattern system and full instructions also includes some knitting and crochet very good value for money. You can obtain from regular book stores smiths or you can get it mail order. It is a monthly magazine full of features.

How do you set up a newspaper/magazine subscription to someone in prison?

How do you set up a newspaper/magazine subscription to someone in prison? and does anyone know which newspaper/magazine are allowed or not allowed, it’s for my brother who has recently been sent to prison. Thanks

Not all UK prisons have the same rules regarding newspapers. Phone the Prison and ask what is acceptable. Bear in mind the newspapers will most probably be out of date by the time he receives them. The Officers do not always deliver the mail on a daily basis, it takes low priority.

What are some good mens fashion magazines?

Posted on March 15th, 2011 by admin in fashion magazines | 1 Comment »

Hey there, I’m looking for some mens fashion magazines. Something kind of like GQ Magazine. If you could list magazines from London or Paris, that would be good too; and if you know how I could purchase those magazines, that would help out a lot! Thank you!

You may like:
Men’s Vogue
Classic Style Magazine

Homme

But I don’t know how you could purchase these magazines.

How has representation of women in fashion magazines changed over the past five years?

Posted on March 13th, 2011 by admin in fashion magazines | 1 Comment »

I’m doing media coursework on representation of women in fashion magazines and how its changed. It would really help and be much appreciated if I got your views or anything helpful that you may have from the internet or books!

I did a project on something similar about ahem 20 odd years ago looking at how women were represented in French and English magazines. I got a French and English version of Elle and Cosmopolitan and looked at how women were portrayed in advertisements and found that the women in French magazines seemed to be shown to be more suppliant, smiling inanely for no reason, heads tilted etc. Would be interesting to see if this has differed since.
