What is the average salary for a magazine journalist?

Posted on January 17th, 2010 by admin in magazine | 1 Comment »

Now, if someone obtains a bachelor’s degree in a college like NYU or Columbia, and receives a master’s degree in journalism from NYU or Columbia, how much money would they make? And if the magazine were to be a big magazine in New York such as Nylon, how much money do you think the journalist would make?

it depends first of all whether there is any involvement of a guild or union. if you are a staff writer you usually have a personal contract.

if you freelance there are some guidelines but remuneration depends on your name. moreover, it depends on where the magazine is located, what its advertising income is, etc.

and you have to make a distinction between reporters, feature writers and columnists. not every magazine does, but there are many that do. a staff writer may do grunt work at a top magazine or may actually write less-than feature-length articles at a smaller one. feature writers would write lengthier copy of a reportorial nature and columnists – well, we all know them.

it depends also on supply. if you are the only person who can read kurdish and you are working for vogue – it only matters in you go to northern iraq/southern turkey for a fashion shoot. however if you are employed at a political/news magazine it might be useful, and if a famous kurdish author/politician etc has just released his memoirs you don’t have to wait for the translation before it gets reviewed and you will get a bonus.

no, it is not cut and dried.

what happens to out of date magazines?

I am trying to find a source to donate or discount recent past issues to send in care packages to Soldiers in Iraq. Can anyone send me in the right direction?

Donate them to a thrift store like the Salvation Army, they use the money to help others. I buy magazines from thrift stores all the time!

Recipe had a layer of butterscotch pudding, layer of vanilla pudding, thinner layer of chocolate pudding. Think it was poured into prepared pie shell. Whipped topping on top, but am not sure. Anybody see/have this recipe?

Hope this is it – looks like what you are describing.

How can I make cigar magazines available at my smoke shop?

Posted on January 17th, 2010 by admin in magazines | 3 Comments »

I work at a smoke shop and we wan’t to make magazines that are about cigars, cigarettes etc available to our customers.

Ok, being a smoke shop there is no need to name the magazines. You should be more than aware of the titles. Contact their subscription department and explain you query. The publisher can possibly hook you up.
Option 2 is contact your local magazine distributor to the area retail stores and set up an account with them

How do you cancel a magazine subscription?

Posted on January 14th, 2010 by admin in magazine subscription | 1 Comment »

I subscribed to a magazine and I don’t want it anymore, the first issue hasn’t come yet. The problem is that I subscribed through a magazine drive at my friends school. The drive’s long over.
How do I cancel? Would I get a refund even though I ordered through the drive?

Thank you, God Bless.

as to whether or not you can get a refund, probably depends on whether the materials you received/viewed before signing stated that a refund will be given if you are not satisfied with the magazine.

however, at this point, you will most likely need to wait until your first issue arrives – that way, you’ll have the proper information needed to cancel…in most instances, magazines require that you cancel by telephone – and, often times, they need your account number from the address sticker on the magazine in order to process the request.
