If fashion magazines are so degrading and treat women like objects, why do you buy them?
Honest question. I don’t buy any fashion magazines or anything like that, but a while ago I took a feminist-ish class that analyzed how women are presented in pop culture.
The stuff in the magazines was _disgusting_. All the women had makeup that, to me, just looked like bruises, and one woman was hung from the ceiling like a chandelier.
But what was even more disgusting to me was that all these girls were alternating between, "That’s so wrong," and, "This is my favorite magazine!"
Power of the consumer, people. The industry gives you what you want, and you tell them by buying that crap and watching MTV.
You can’t blame everything on ’societal pressure’ either, because there’s always someone else who agrees with you and you’re ultimately the one forking over the cash and taking the thing home.
Stop buying Hooker magazine and miniskirts, and I guarantee you they will disappear.
There exist a small group of men who actually appreciate that type of thing. And I don’t mean being objectifying women.
Some of us appreciate women who "doll" themselves up. I personally, love it when my wife does that. It has nothing to do with demeaning her or having less respect for her. It’s more about what we prefer.
I think if society was more bilateral (with regard to the sexes), then we would see men who read those kinds of magazines and subscribed women’s preferences too.
The key here is to do what you want to and what makes you feel good. I personally used to like attention from women, now I do from my wife. If something I wear or something I do to my hair makes her more attracted to me, then I’ll do it.
Unfortunately, too many women go overboard with that concept. The idea is to be attractive to yourself, then the actractee.
Showing your goodies because you think it’s the only way to get attention is just wrong. But if you like dressing skanky because of the thrill. Because your husband/boyfriend or the type of guy you’re looking for likes that, then go for it.

I want to start my own magazine publishing company. Any suggestions on how to get started?
Writing and journalism have been my passion my whole life. My degree is actually in journalism. I’ve just realized that this is REALLY it, but I know it is going to require a lot of work. As a magazine publisher, I get to report again and write my own stories. I know that magazine publishing is a complex business and it is also very risky, but it’s my dream and I’m going to do it. I’d just love to get some advice from you guys on ways to get started.
The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you’re interested in.
I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.
Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you’ll inevitably have as well as many you haven’t anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Starting & Running a Successful Newsletter or Magazine (4th Edition) by Cheryl Woodard

taste of home recipe for a great summer fruit salad which came from a Taste of Home magazine.?
The salad consists of kiwi fruit, watermelon, bananas, apples, grapes (?) and other fruits and the dressing was a lime dressing with just sugar and water. I cut this recipe out of one of my TOH magazines and have misplaced it.
SUMMER SALAD WITH LIME
DRESSING
(A dessert or a side-dish salad that’s good with or without the dressing. You can refrigerate tightly – covered leftovers for up to 3 days. A delicious cool salad!1)
1/2 c. each lime juice and water
1/2 c. sugar, or to taste
1 lg. banana, sliced diagonally
1 pt. blueberries, divided
2 lg. nectarines, sliced
1 pt. strawberries, hulled and halved
1 c. watermelon balls
1 c. seedless green grapes
1 kiwi fruit, peeled and sliced
Dark sweet cherries with stems, for garnish (optional)
Creamy Lime-Honey Dressing (recipe follows)
In bowl, stir lime juice, water, and sugar until sugar dissolves. Add banana; set aside. In large serving bowl, preferably clear glass, layer blueberries (reserve 1/2 cup for garnish), nectarines, strawberries, banana, watermelon, and grapes. Garnish with reserved 1/2 cup blueberries, the kiwi, and the cherries. Pour lime-sugar syrup over fruits; cover loosely and chill. To serve, spoon an assortment of fruits and berries into dessert bowls with some of the syrup. Makes 6 generous servings.
Lime Dressing
For dressing, in a small saucepan combine sugar and water. Cook and stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat; stir in lime peel, lime juice and poppy seed. *optional* Let cool.

What happens to partially filled magazines?
In video games such as Counter-Strike and Call of Duty, when the player reloads his gun when the magazine is not empty, it seems as if the old magazine is thrown away. As this can be seen as a waste of ammunition, it makes me wonder what soldiers actually do in the field. Do they throw away partially-filled magazines, hold on to them, or just shoot until magazine is empty?
In the field when you switch out a magazine that has been partially emptied you try to save it in your ruck. When you are out of combat for a while you reload those partial mags. If you are moving too fast then the mags just fall where they are and are left there. Video games aren’t anything like real life.
The New Yorker Magazine Subscription……….cheapest?
What is the cheapest place to buy a subscription to the New Yorker magazine? Obviously, going direct will be much more expensive, and I have heard that you can get it very cheap on some of these websites. Which site is cheap and honest, and won’t steal my money and never give me my New Yorker subscription?
You get what you pay for. I’d advise you to subscribe direct.
Where in London can I find old video games magazines for cheap prices or even free?
Hello everyone and sorry for my English, it’s not my language. I’m interested in finding 1 to 4 years old magazines about video games, mostly computer based games. I’m aware of the fact that many unsold publications are already recycled 3 times in a row at this moment, but perhaps you know some sources. I don’t want a series of a specific magazine, neither a certain edition. I would just like to get a few random magazines about video games, not even recent editions. Magazines from 2006, 2007 would be fine.
Also, I am interested in getting promotional materials about not-so-recent video games, like small fliers you usually find in games stores (this would be one of the sources), or perhaps in games cases/boxes. Old (and not so important) game manuals would do as well. I’m not asking for big title games, mediocre games would be fine.
I’m a student and I can’t afford buying new games (no matter how cheap they are) just to get their manuals. I could pay a small amount for a couple of 2005-2008 magazines though, if someone is interested and wants to get rid of them.
Please help me with whatever source you might consider in this matter. Thank you very much!
This is a long shot, try Gumtree and click on London, it’s amazing what you can get there, or put it under wanted on Gumtree. Maybe, just maybe – you”ll be lucky. I hope so.
