Where can I buy cheap magazine racks for selling magazines?
I’m trying to set up a small business – emphasis on the small! Meaning I don’t have much money to blow, next to nothing in fact, so any ideas where I can find a simple, standing magazine rack that won’t cost an arm and a leg? So far I’ve always been looking at upwards of $200, as no-one in england makes them and that’s not including shipping…
IKEA is a great store for this type of stuff

What should I do with my fashion magazines?
I have a lot of fashion magazines from allure, cosmogirl, seventeen and glamour but i dont want to throw them away. do u have any creative ideas on wat to do wit them.
make a scrap book out of it. cut out your favourite pictures of models in clothes you like and paste them in any book according the different style. then this would come in handy for the days you dont know what to wear. same goes for make-up tips and all. or you could cut out inprirational quotes or pictures and use them to decorate your wall. like a poster. anyhow you like, be creative! or of course, you could recycle them or sell them off for money.
Why does it take so long for a magazine subscription to start?
It seems to me that in a computer age a simple magazine subscription should start within days of receiving money paid but they tell you it may be 6-8 weeks before you receive any magazines. Why so long a wait?
Once they get your money they have no further use for you.
What magazine has good articles for people who own a small business?
I’m 26, I slaved myself for 2 companies after college, and I never got anywhere.
Every magazine seems to have articles about how to be on your boss’ good side, how to get a long with your co-workers, and how to climb on the corporate ladder.
Every magazine seems to have them, fitness magazines, variety magazines, and even science magazine. I was addicted to these articles trying to get ahead in my company. But after so much frustration, I quit, and started my own business last year.
I’m doing great. I set own my office without kissing up to anyone, I give myself raises everytime I work hard and get good profits, I don’t have to care about being on anyone’s good side.
The weird thing now is how addicted I was to these "how to get ahead" articles. They are everywhere, I never realized you don’t see any advice for people who have small businesses.

Always-On Discount Book Store in Chennai for Books & Magazines ?
Is there are Book Store in Chennai which provides discount throughout the year ? Like Blossoms in Bangalore.
Many bookstores in Chennai offer books in MRP, and if there are limited discount offers that applies only to certain books, not all the books, magazines unlike at Blossoms, Bangalore.
There is an Om Shakti Book Store based in Madras, that sometimes has book fairs in Bangalore.
I have a number for Om Shakti Books which is 93810 41089. (You can tell them you got their number from the lady with the trolley!) They offer good discounts esp on their US/CANADA surplus stock, and are one of my favourite book fairs to visit – in fact I can’t wait for March which is when they said they’d be back in Bangalore.
Enjoy maadi!

Do you think subscriptions for Magazines are a waste of money?
I am on the verge of subscribing to Nylon Magazine, because it’s hard to find in my country. But the thing is, am i wasting money? is it really worth it? I really want to, but I don’t know if magazines are really a waste. Would it be better if I used that money on clothes? I don’t know! Please share your insight with me.
If there is somewhere else that you can read it easily for free (like, a bookstore or the library, for example) then you might not want to subscribe. I know that with magazines that I really like (and therefore subscribe to), I’ll pick it up and read certain articles again or look at things more in-depth randomly after I’ve finished reading an issue. Then there are some magazines that I just like to flip through and read once, and the library or the bookstore is good enough for this.
If you like Nylon and you know that you’ll read it then go and get the subscription. It’s not a life sentence, and, especially if it’s hard to find where you live, you’ll probably be spending less money on a subscription than you would if you bought the magazine month-to-month.
What literary magazines publish subversive writing?
I am trying to find places that would be willing to publish more subversive/dry short stories. All the popular magazines seem to be extremely literary and probably not interested in my style.
So is there no hope? Are there any offbeat literary magazines out there?
My writing has been compared to the love child of David Sedaris and Jerri Blank, if that gives you a better idea.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Subversive, eh?
Sedaris, eh?

There’s a ton. What mags have you been looking at?
A lot of niche publishing magazines exist. The Idiot, The American Drivel Review just to name two that I know very well. They aren’t widely distributed, but people do read them.
Believe it or not, looking for short story markets is actually one of the times I think the Writer’s Market is really useful. They have a huge listing of Lit Mags. (I prefer Herman’s for agents.)
The key with niche mags is to read at least ten back issues from the current editor. They have particular tastes that are easy to identify and play to. (In truth this is the secret to all short story markets. You write to the editor, not the audience. But what do I know?)
